Cheryl- Great to hear from you! This is wonderful info, and may be the crack in the brick wall we have been searching for. Cecelia has been a name passed down in our family line too, although they were not direct ancestors. I will email you later today to see what else we can figure out. Thanks so much for reading the blog and contacting us.

I was in the throes of researching a “Dr J O’Brien of Carrick-on Suir” when I came across this site.
Below is an extract from the obituary of myy great grandmother Mary Bourke (nee O’Brien). The information was supplied by her daughter:
” (Adelaide, SA : 1901 – 1929), Friday 13 July 1923, page 6
OBITUARY.
The death of Mrs. Mary Bourke occurred at Mount Gambier on July 5. She had attained the advanced age of 89 years. Although still active, the deceased had suffered for the past three years. She was born in Thurles (Ireland) in August, 1833, and was brought up in Carrick on Suir. She was a daughter of Mr. T. O’Brien, a niece of Dr. J. O’Brien, and a granddaughter of Mr. Lannigan, a barrister, of Templemore. At the age of 16 years Mrs. Bourke arrived at Portland. It was there two years later that she was married to Mr. Andrew Bourke of Limestone Ridge, where they went to live.”
I have the baptisms of Mary’s and her siblings at Thurles, showing they are the children of Thomas O’Brien and Cecilia Lanigan. The baptisms are 1826,1828 and 1830. I have never found the O’Brien/Lanigan marriage or any other information. The name “Cecilia” continued in the Bourke family, in reference to Mary Bourke’s mother Cecilia Lanigan.
Regards, Cheryl
